Organizing My Home

March 25, 2022

Well, it’s hard to believe this, but we are coming up soon on a year since moving into our home we built. I have spent the last year organizing and getting things just the way I want/need them, and I am excited to share with you some of the things that have really taken our organization game up a notch (and looks good doing it!).

  1. Hanging 6 tier fabric organizer: I have this in our laundry room and it’s been a game changer for our family. I have it hanging on my copper clothing rack I use to dry our hang dry items. I saw another blogger does this and thought it was genius… every Sunday, I place full outfits for the boys for all our outings for the week. From bottom to top! Knox has school MWF, we have outings and playdates, and then church every Sunday. Rather than digging and scrounging for clean pants or underwear, now I tell Knox to go grab his outfit for the day (socks and undies included!). It also helps me know which laundry is priority and needs to be done so we aren’t up on a Wednesday morning for school only to realize there’s no clean jeans … been there before? 😉
  2. Hanging 3 tier fabric organizer: This one is in my closet on the bottom rack of my two level hanging section. I use two side by side- one for hats and the other for my very nice shoes.
  3. Velvet hangers: I have these in a blush pink for my top rows and dresses, and then I purchased the white/grey color for pants and skirts on my bottom level of the closet. The rose gold looks so pretty and my closet instantly felt elevated from simply buying these!
  4. 3 tier rolling cart: I just bought this last week to move all of my cleaning supplies to one location in our laundry room rather than spread out across the house. It’s cute, fits perfectly on the side of my washing machine, and was super easy to assemble!
  5. Large rope handle storage bins: I bought these because they were neutral for the top shelves of my closet but stilly had a little character. I store Paul’s ball caps in one, memoriam items for Blakely in another, and winter hats/gloves and beanies in another. Matching bins just instantly makes a space feel less cluttered!
  6. Make-up caddy: I love this super cheap random buy of mine. I was able to move all my make up out of a make up bag to this, which first and foremost feels cleaner. I store all the brushes in the center and then each section is dedicated to eyes/lips/face/sponges
  7. OXO 7 piece pantry organization: These changed the feel of our pantry instantly. There’s just something about taking things out of the mismatched boxes that items came in and placing into a nicer container like these that all match. Clutter is immediately eliminated!
  8. Decorative woven baskets: More pantry organization! I have 3 of these side by side for any bread, cans, grains and pastas. They look great on the shelf and are functional.
  9. Woven round basket: I have this stored on unique shelf built into my closet organization for all my ball caps (which are many hehe). I have it next to all of my hand bags and they look great together.
  10. Large decorative baskets: I use these in different locations around my house for easy clean up with my kids and odds and ends. The large seagrass is used in my living room between our accent chairs for books. The boys pull them out all day and have to throw it all back in at the end before bed. The pretty tulip basket is in my master closet for towels since we don’t have a linen closet in our master bath.

This Month’s YL Purchases

March 17, 2022

Happy SUNSHINE & Happy Spring, babes! I wanted to give you a YoungLiving re-stock haul I did this month and share what we use each item for around our home. Some are just clean scents while others are used daily in our home. I have slowly been swapping out items in our home that particularly impact my babies over the last 6 months or so with clean Young Living products. This started first and foremost with our cleaning supplies and high touch surfaces that they are around. I have been using YL for years, simply with scents and a diffuser, but I have really enjoyed changing out other household items with them more recently. I didn’t used to share their products much because it wasn’t an easy shopping experience for you guys. But that has changed completely with some recent changes they’ve made as a company and I am really excited to share items with you to shop like you would anything on my blog or through liketoknow.it. It’s the same now! Below is my personal website I pay extra for so that you can see ONLY the items I actually use rather than sifting through a ton of products I am not knowledgable about. It’d be like linking my curated posts on Liketoknow.it vs. an entire website link. I just think there’s a lot more integrity and care behind this way of sharing the products we love!

With that said… here’s my website. And below you’ll find the products from my March haul!

Thieves Household Cleaner: We buy this often and use daily. I keep a spray bottle and pour two caps full and then fill the rest with water! Sometimes, I add white vinegar for spot treatment. I use this on our quartz counters, our floors, our upholstery, our tile… everything. I added lemon to the sprayer yesterday with the water and Thieves and sprayed all over our living room rug that was smelling a little too “doggy.” It’s all purpose and I have zero reservations cleaning a tub and putting my bare babies in it right after!

Peppermint: We diffuse this and put directly onto our skin for pain. If you mix in the diffuser with lavender and lemon it helps with sniffles and allergies! Most recently, I have had horrible headaches with my pregnancy. I have tried everything and nothing worked for relief except peppermint on my temples! Basically instant relief. It was WILD. Writing this with it on my temples as we speak because I felt an afternoon migraine coming on.

Lemon: Another we use almost daily! I use to remove my clear plastic hair ties when I do styled hair dos (for real)… one drop and it pops off. I don’t pull out all my hair. I use it to remove stickers on products and purchases. And, I also diffuse because it smells delicious. I also have put in iced water when we are out of lemons!

Lavender: Another almost daily one… hence the restock haul 😉 Lavender is a sleepy time aid, great for burns and bug bites, and overall just one of my favorites to diffuse and mix with scents. When knox gets a bug bite he runs in and asks for “lamender”. I refuse to correct him.

Orange: This was a new buy but seemed right for spring and it is now one of my favorites ever. It’s strong so you only need a couple drops to go a long way. Currently, I just use in the diffuser to fill my whole home. Mix it with vanilla!

Grapefruit: Same story as Orange! I love fruity scents and windows open during the spring, and this one fits the description. It’s light and sweet and perfectly citrusy.

On the website, just like Amazon Prime, you need a login. This isn’t creepy and you won’t get weird MLM emails when you create one. I promise. And once you’ve created one you’re good! Then, you’ll either purchase items as a one time purchase or a subscriber which keeps things coming periodically. Subscribing a product saves you 24% on your purchase!

Rainbow Pregnancy Announcement

March 8, 2022

Well, at this point, you’ve probably heard we are expecting our rainbow baby girl this September. I cannot believe the kindness of God to give us this gift, and we found out she was a girl the week we should have brought home our daughter Blakely who we lost in August. Every detail of our story is so divinely touched by the Lord and we just feel so grateful. I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful backdrop to shoot a rainbow baby girl than this incredible set up at Lemon Drop Studios in Mckinney, TX. The set was designed by Sidewalk Dreamery and they have it as a special pop-up for the spring on one side of the studio. Our girl’s name will mean “Blooming Mercy” and this set, which we booked before we knew what the gender was, couldn’t have been a more tangible picture of this baby in my belly. Paul and I both cried shooting these photos because we just are so thankful. We cannot wait to meet this beautiful girl.

I found this dress for $38 on Amazon, and it was PERFECT for photos. I went up a size from XS to Small for length and I am glad I did. It’d be so cute for any shoot (I barely have a bump still, so it’s definitely not maternity but certainly could be if you go up a size.

Our photos are by Hannah Hagaman, as per usual, from The Cottonwood Collective. She has been shooting my family for seven years, and it’s just always so fun. As always, I love to share our full photoshoots with you in a post to inspire your own beautiful family photos. If you invest in anything “frivolous” in life, photos are the top of the list for me. You won’t regret it and they’ll last forever. Like, these are the kind of things family long after you go will look at and remember you and the legacy you built by. Also, I believe quality images in your home are an easy way to elevate the space while simultaneously making it feel like yours. Put these in some affordable metal frames and you instantly have an elegant display!

All of our outfits are linked if possible. Rory’s top and shoes are Zara Baby and Paul’s top is UNTUCKit Wrinkle Performance. He says, “Best shirt ever made. EVER.” His boots are Tecovas Roper Boot.

Favorite Costco Purchases This Month

March 2, 2022

Hello! I have been wanting to do better about sharing our grocery hauls in addition to my meal plans. We typically do two bigger Costco hauls a month, the first of the month being our biggest as we budget to replenish toilet paper/diapers/wipes/household items. We have to do separate grocery stops at our local market for our gluten-free and paleo cooking items. Usually Sprouts or Market Street! HOWEVER, we are getting HEB down the street and the San Antonio girl in me is rejoicing. I was really excited about some new buys this week as well as staple items that are back in stock at Costco and wanted to share!

  1. Cilantro Shrimp: I always eye the shrimp in the cooler section but never have bought it before. I usually grab the taco tray or stuffed peppers. But I went for it this time. I bought with easy lunches in mind. Only $12 for a large tray of them, I plan to use on top of salads this week for my lunch/dinner rice bowls with veggies. I eat cold like a shrimp cocktail!
  2. Caesar Salad and Cranberry Brussel Salad Mix: I buy these to keep on hand basically at all times. I use for lunches or dinners! Again, this week I am topping with shrimp!
  3. Chicken Burger Patties: I LOVE THESE! They used to have a mozzarella and kale one that they stopped carrying but was a top purchase of mine for lunches, but they now have a caramelized onion and cheddar one that’s really good. They’re great for me and the boys for lunch with some carrots and ranch or chips and hummus. Super quick and easy!
  4. Pulled Pork: Still a favorite for us! They didn’t have it for a while but it’s back! We put in the Ninja Foodi for a quick second to warm and add a little BBQ sauce. This is amazing by itself, on top of rice, in a sweet potato, in a sandwich… all of the above.
  5. Pimento Cheese and Simple Mills Crackers: This is a favorite snack for me! Pimento cheese on a sandwich, on a cracker, on a bagel… I don’t care what it is. Give me more cheese! Their Jalapeño Pimento Cheese is for real the best.
  6. Strawberries: They look so good right now as we are “in season” for strawberries in Texas! They’re red, big, and so juicy. Perfectly tart! My boys love strawberries and they make a great snack in the afternoon for them with a tablespoon of chocolate chips!
  7. Croissants: I can’t eat these.. sad. But my boys love a croissant! I heat up with jam and butter for a quick breakfast day or Knox will eat it as a sandwich bread!
  8. Beef Jerky Sausage Sticks: Knox and Rory LOVE these (but really we all do). I say the boys, though, because I use for their lunches often. It’s perfect for a protein for Knox’s lunch at school, or I can cut up into Mac and cheese at home and a quick can of green peas (Rory can legit eat an entire can of peas alone).
  9. Apple Sauce Pouches: We eat these like candy in our home. Another great pre-k lunch box item for snack time, but I pass these out all day at the house to be honest.
  10. KidKraft Woodland View Playhouse: Okay, we haven’t bought this YET. But we plan to. See it here on this blog post. It’s first and foremost so cute. It looks like a mini version of our home. And, it’s only $600, which is half the cost of most play sets you’ll find. It has a slide, picnic table, ladder, and kitchen. What’s notable about it to me is actually the size. Rather than a “play set” when thinking of size, picture more like a thinner two story playhouse with a slide. We have a small back yard, so it’s been hard to picture what kind of play set we could get for the boys, but we have known we want one. I also didn’t want something that would ruin our backyard aesthetic or peace. This set is SUCH a win-win-win.

February’s Favorite Five

February 25, 2022

My goodness, here we go flying into March! This month’s favorite five are arguably also my favorite five also. We round up the most clicked and bought items from you each month, and I gotta say I like where you guys are headed this spring 😉

Magnolia Hearth & Hand Headboard: This piece is so affordable and looks incredibly “high end.” The woven details and the perfectly washed wood look put this piece way up on my list of finds this month, and evidently yours as well! A king sized headboard is under $300 … which is basically impossible to find. If you’re looking for a beautiful piece for a focal point in your bedroom on a budget, this is it.

Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi Rugs: I have been a longtime supporter of Rifle Paper Co. and their new line with Loloi rugs has made their beautiful art available for your homes in a new (and shockingly priced) way. This 5×7 rug is only $220 and is a statement maker for your home. I could see it in an entry foyer with a natural bench or console table, or as a living room rug (put on top of a 8 x 10 jute if you need something that covers more space.

Levi’s Ribcage Jeans: I bought these two Nordstrom Anniversary Sales ago, and I love them. They fit my petite body like a glove and magically make my squat torso look lengthy and lean. However, we call these The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pant jeans, because multiple of my friends have them -all different body types- and feel like a million bucks in them! I bought true to size in a 25 but I will warn, there’s no give for days you have some bloat and can easily go up a size!

Puffed Sleeve Selkie Lookalike: I think this dress is so cute and perfect for a spring wedding or Easter service and lunch with family. This dress is under $100 vs. it’s designer lookalike that prices out right at $300!

Tie Shoulder Pink Dress: Cue the perfect spring and summer dress. You can put a long sleeve white shirt or bodysuit underneath while the temperatures are still a little frigid, and then pair with sneakers or sandals! I think this one is so cute, kinda some LoveShackFancy floral vibes, and it’s only $60!
