Here’s the funniest part about a second child: Everything is late. Knox’s milestone pics were always posted day- of and done ahead of time… Rory’s, I missed his 1 month and I am late for the 2nd. Love them equally… but time for milestone pics and updates is definitely tighter with two hehe. HOWEVER, today I am celebrating two months of Rory Liam! I cannot believe our little 6 lb 3 oz nugget is two months old. He’s the happiest baby, healthy, and low-key… giant. Or at least he is to us, because we only have Knox to compare a two month old to lol. But this kid has some pounds on Knox at 2 months old.
Rory is a dream. He hardly cries *not kidding* and sleeps 90% of the time through the night for us. We’ve learned to look for my fatty milk pouches to give him for his night time feedings! They keep him full. We have been doing about 8PM-4AM majority of the time. But, there are nights here and there he still wakes up for a feeding in between. He is so strong and sits up with a little help, and loves to be on his belly. I forgot how much you feel you’re not really doing anything *with* your baby at this age, and I can sometimes feel guilty he just swings in his MamaRoo or lays on us almost all day haha. But I know it’s soon to pass and I am soaking it up as much as I can.
Knox is obsessed with his brother and I think that’s made this transition so much easier. If I had to handle the emotional roller coaster of Knox feeling jealous or upset over Rory, that’d have made this all so much harder in all respects. I really don’t think we did anything in particular to help with this other than keeping Knox informed all throughout my pregnancy and getting him excited as much as we could. Other than that, I just think it’s who Knox is. Every kid will be so different for this situation! Give yourself and your first born grace if you’re having a hard time with the transition of bringing home #2.
Things I am loving right now…
Legendary Milk Sunflower Lecithin: This is for certain what finally fixed my clogs that caused my mastitis! I legit had them ALL OVER. First of all, mastitis is as awful as the stories I have heard. I had a fever over 101 (up to 104) for over a week and hardly felt like I could move. I had it so badly because my antibiotics didn’t work at first and I had to FIGHT for a new prescription. Thank God, after two days, I finally got a hold of my midwife after begging to please speak with her and she wrote me a new one that started to fix me within 3 hours. Because of my history of being immune to some antibiotics, I knew that was the issue. But… because of COVID, the phone nurse tried to convince me I had COVID coincidentally with my mastitis and I wasn’t even allowed to come in to my OB-GYN to see my own midwife BECAUSE they said I could have COVID… That’s a different subject for a different day. Anyways, even after my infection was on the mend, I was still clogged in so many spot and knew it was only a matter of time before I got infected again. THIS STUFF WAS THE GAME CHANGER!
I have been trying to catch up my milk supply with my Miracle Milkookies, of course. But in general, because my supply is so high, I am still pumping 8-10 oz a session between right and left. That’s SUCH a blessing since we exclusively pump to feed Rory!
Nursing Bras: I have so many different nursing bras at all price points… none beat these from Amazon. I bought the v-necks first and then bought the push padded ones and they are MY TOP FAVORITE. It’s like wearing marshmallows and the hooks are sturdier than any of my others.
Doctor Brown Bottles and Milk Bags: We played with different bottle brands with Knox and landed on Doctor Browns! However, these glass bottles are a whole other level. We LOVE them and they look brand new still (the plastic ones started to look icky after a while). Then, if you’re pumping and saving milk at all, buy THESE. They are sturdy and stand while you pour. And, the top is sturdy enough to use as a spout while you pour the milk into the bottle. I know this sounds crazy to have a favorite bag for milk… but it takes one flimsy one and 5 oz. lost to find a favorite.
Ninja Personal Blender: Okay, this one is kind of random to have on this list… but it’s a recent purchase of ours and we love it. We have the big Ninja Blender but it’s just kind of a hassle. I love this personal one lately because I have been making SUPER easy frosé in it… lol. 1 cup of frozen strawberries, 1 cup of rosé, and 1 tsp of sugar.
