If you tuned in this past Thursday for my session, “For the Love Of Blogging”, with The Creative Tribe Workshop, I am so glad to have poured out to you anything and everything I possibly could! I had SO MUCH FUN doing something completely new and unknown, and I could definitely get used to doing that more often.
If you were unable to attend the online conference, I am going to share a quick recap of what I spoke on. If you want to listen to the whole thing, you can go here and register to listen to every session!
THE take-away from my session: Life is way too short to be doing something with the majority of your time every week that makes you miserable.
Furthermore, even if you work in a healthy environment but you aren’t fulfilling your passions and talents, it’s likely that you will become miserable.
I challenged our listeners to figure out their “WHY”. What are you passionate enough about to risk EVERYTHING for? That’s your why. Once you find your why and lock eyes on it- there is no reason to stay in the job you’re in.
Here is how to quit your job TOMORROW
Find a job, any job, to pay the bills by that doesn’t require a whole lot of emotional or physical effort beyond the hours you work, something that won’t take away from your zeal and passion to pour into your “WHY”. If you have a college degree and/or are currently sitting in a salary job- I PROMISE YOU CAN GET A JOB SOMEWHERE ELSE. This could be a retail store, restaurant, personal assistant, fitness studio (That’s what I did and LOVED IT)… anything. You find ANYTHING that pays you and (likely) brings you more joy than the job you just quit.
Second, you work your butt off. Every ounce of time you get outside of that job that’s paying your baseline bills goes into your passion- the end goal. The WHY. This means those first 6 months out of your stable job feels a lot like having a baby. You will wake up at 2 AM wondering if it’s still breathing and then again at 4 AM thinking about all the things you need to do today to help it grow. This time of life also meant having 6 or 7 jobs in addition to my baseline job at the Pure Barre studio to be able to eat and live life. Then, eventually like I was able to, you will get to ween off of your side jobs that are probably burning you out as your passion grows into something monetized. You can hear my entire story and how I got the job of my dreams on the full session!
Lastly, I shared 10 very practical tips to starting a blog. I am NO PRO and am hardly a year into this biz of blogging, but these are 10 steps I found very true for me thus far and I think can help you! I expand on each of these in the full session and give specific how-to’s with each.
1. Start With What You Have
2. Promote Brands at the Same Level As You (Etsy Shops, Local Boutiques)
3. Consistency
4. Be Genuine + Interact with Others
5. Follow People with Similar Interests As You
6. Professional Photography ALWAYS
7. Teach People Something- Always have a take-away for your readers
8. Find Your Niche + Stay True To It
9. Don’t Try to Grow Faster Than You Naturally Would
10. Don’t Post About ANYTHING You Don’t Believe In
Again, if you want the whole session, I really encourage you to head over to The Creative Tribe website to not only hear my full story and advice, but 10 other incredible women’s advice and experiences.
Happy Monday, pretties.
xoxo- Han
